What are Life Lines? A lifeline by dictionary definition is used for saving or preserving life. Many people have questions and the bible has answers that can serve as a lifeline for you right now where you are. Let’s take a journey into the word of God and what it says about Alcohol or Drug addiction.
- Are you ready for change?
- Are you ready for freedom?
- Are you ready for victory?
1 Kings 22:5 NIV “First seek the counsel of the LORD.”
The Holy Bible
One of the biggest lies ever told is “You are the only one that deals with sin”.
Well, let’s go ahead and call that statement what it is. It is a lie. This lie has been told to countless Christians and Non-Christians by the devil himself for many years. The Bible says in Romans 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”. The cry for every person that has a void in their life or a chemical dependence just wants to numb the pain. Does that sound familiar to you? Of course it does and we challenge you to keep reading.
Psalm 25:17 says “Relieve the troubles of my heart and free me from my anguish.” Well that is what the majority of us feel and sometimes we just don’t know where to go. Today can be different for you. Today can be the beginning of a new life. This new life is found in the peace that only Jesus can give. You may be thinking: “Here we go”. Yes, here we go. You have tried to gain peace from everything else and they did not give you a lasting peace.
Philippians 4:7 ESV 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Jesus has your back
One of the first steps towards freedom from addiction is changing your dependency
I know right now you may be thinking, that is easier said than done. That may be correct. However, just because it is easier said than done does not mean it is impossible.
Psalms 23:4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me;
What does that mean? Recognize that the Lord is with you and always makes a way of escape according to 1 Corinthians 10:13
1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
Breakthrough is accomplished by being intentional
Now we’re talking… Wait are you saying I have to be intentional with my decision making? Yep! You got it. You have to be intentional. Now you have read it three times. Let’s make this practical. If your friends like to get intoxicated and indulge in drugs or drunkenness what should you do?
My guess is that you said you should not hang with them. That is correct. Proverbs 23:20 says “do not be among those who are drunkards”. Making the right choices means changing your playmates and playground. Addiction to drugs or alcohol is a sin. We are not judging, we are simply stating what the bible teaches. According to 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 our bodies belong to the Lord
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

Key Scriptures to read
Proverbs 23:31–32 “Do not gaze at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly! In the end it bites like a snake and poisons like a viper.”
1 Samuel 1:14 “How long are you going to stay drunk? Put away your wine.”
Isaiah 5:22 “Woe to those who are heroes at drinking wine and champions at mixing drinks.…”
Philippians 2:13 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.
You may think that no one cares about your heart. That is another lie of the devil. Jesus cares and gives you and I this warning in Luke 21:34 “Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap.”
Don’t fall for the trap
